FlickR ( http://flickr.com )is a site for sharing photos that is quite intriguing given its incredible popularity. A free level oof service is provided, all be it this is restricted to 20mb of cummulative file uploads per month and three "sets" (organized collections) of images. These restrictions are removed for "pro" subscribers who pay about $24 (us) per year. Non-intrusive advertising is included throughout these pages as part of the business model that supports the free service.

Iterestingly, it is possible to integrate images from this source into other sites via MeatBall:TransClusion, effectively avoiding the advertising.

These images are hyperlinks that jump to entire sets of pictures posted at FlickR. (The image displayed as a link is merely the one image of the set that represents the entire collection.)

These examples show that FlickR's various sizes of an image can be used to have a smaller version act as hyperlink to a larger one. This makes page layout a bit easier, especially since most people will recognize the smaller version and will only rarely want to appreciate the larger ones.

To build a URL that uses a thumbnail to access the main FlickR image.

Several interesting applications become apparent as a result of using both FlickR and this wiki;

GoogleMaps should also be integrated, especially since the competition between amongst Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft ensures that mapping will remain an internet feature.
