This 'Collaboration' page starts the collection of topics related to experiments in collaboration, designed to determine the extent to which modern tools will improve the productivity of 'arms length' participants.
Objective of 'collaboration experiments';
Productivity improvement is the over-whelmingly important Goal of 'collaboration'.
2005 Objectives:
More clearly demonstrate the value of collaboration within this environment.
Measure the expected increase in collaboration resulting from Development of RssFeed support and the related MonitorsAndEditors.
- This Objective has been deprecated since this site's RssFeed(s) stopped working.
- ...
- A pragmatic limitation that needs to be calibrated is the reduction in productivity that result from the communication difficulties inherent in the communications process needed to collaborate. (i.e. Is it easier to do it yourself that communicate what you want someone else to do.)
Current Observations include;
- The FreeSoftwareFoundation? and its GPL licence concepts are becomming a significant force, as people continue to transfer their "Evil Empire" perceptions from IBM to Microsoft, now being similarily attacked by Linux.
Mutually beneficial working relationships may be based on concepts including;
- PurchaseOrders?.
- Previous VirtualCorporation? concepts are becomming more pertinent.
- ...
One tentative conclusion arising for these Collaboration experiments, is that participants develop a hightened belief that they also need private resources. In the interests of efficiency, these should be compatible, although modern tools such as:
- DataTransformationServices?,
- The apparenly inate ability of wiki's to import and export from a number of data stores,
- ...
seem to make this less of a concern.
WIP material follows.

- ReturnForAngela2 ...hwoChat. Angela: Feel free to wander, I am simply trying to be an effective guide at this early time, in order to help you avoid some of the frustrations others have expressed during their initiation rites.
Gjw has a strong prefernce for Forums?.
Email?
"everyone should have the ability to create a discussion group, rather than having to contact an Administrator." hwo - there are times when this may be preferable, but there are also other situations where its not.
Rights of Groups, within Forums need to be understood better. This could be an Admin effort issue.
The ability to restrict Threads may also be pertinent.
Gjw could complete some of the helpful fields within the Forum environment.
